Upon arrival at Kigali international airport, you will be met by our local representative outside the customs and immigration hall. He will then introduce you to your driver guide who will transfer you to Musanze.
Bisate Lodge has dramatic views of the Bisoke and Karisimbi volcano peaks rising through the forests of nearby Volcanoes National Park. It is within easy driving distance of the park headquarters, from where once-in-a-lifetime gorilla treks depart daily. Exploring around Bisate includes community visits, birding, golden monkey tracking, and helping reforest the area, Gorilla Guardian Village, the Twin Lakes of Ruhondo and Burera, and Dian Fossey’s grave.
Six opulent en-suite forest villas are warmed by a central fireplace and have breathtaking views from the deck. The main area comprises a lounge, dining and bar area, wine cellar and viewing deck. Both the architecture and interiors are rooted in Rwandan cultural traditions.
The aim of Bisate is to be a model of sustainable ecotourism in Rwanda. Its reforestation and rehabilitation project has each guest partnering with us in contributing to conservation and local community upliftment, with a positive impact on the iconic endangered mountain gorilla.
Bisate Lodge uniquely offers you:
Bisate’s sophisticated architectural and interior design is rooted in Rwandan building tradition as exemplified in the design of the Royal Palace of the traditional monarch. This spherical, synthetic thatched structure echoes the thousands of hills that dot the Rwandan landscape, while the richly detailed interior exhibits surfaces and screens made from a variety of woven materials with strong resonance in Rwandan culture.
Each 91 square metre Forest Villa consists of a generous yet intimate combination of bedroom, reception space and bathroom, all warmed by a central fireplace and with breath taking views out across your private deck towards Mount Bisoke. With only six villas, the real generosity in the Rwandan context is the amount of private and exclusive space that surrounds Bisate, cosseting it in a rare natural landscape brimming with Albertine Rift biodiversity and beauty.
Each villa features:
You will start the day early at 06:00 am for your drive to the Volcanoes National Park offices.
With less than 800 mountain gorillas left in the world, approximately 300 live in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park. A guide will take you up close to view these majestic creatures in their natural habitat. This awe-inspiring wildlife experience is the top attraction of those who visit Rwanda.
Each trek starts at 7:00 am with a briefing at the Volcanoes National Park offices in Kinigi. It is essential to be there on time, to book the permit in advance, and to have a suitable vehicle to conquer the rough park roads – all of which your tour operator will organize for you. Following the briefing, you then depart for your trek by 8:00 am.
Your trek takes you through the rich and diverse montane ecosystems, which embrace evergreen and bamboo forest, open grassland, swamp and heath. Once you've located the mountain gorillas, you'll have one hour to observe them as they go about their daily life, feeding, playing, resting and raising their young.
For a very special thrill, one of the big silverbacks may get up and beat their chest to demonstrate their strength, which will surely make your heart beat faster. But don't worry – despite their size and appearance, the mountain gorillas are remarkably peaceful.
After your trek, filled with memories that will last a lifetime, you will transfer back to your lodge to freshen up before lunch.
The Retreat By Heaven offers luxury amenities in the form of expansive custom-built rooms with peaked ceilings, front and rear private patio areas, bathrooms with indoor & outdoor showers, a heated saltwater solar powered swimming pool, hot tub, sauna, spa and fully equipped gym.
This morning after breakfast at 08:00am, you will start your Kigali city tour.
Peacefully nestled along picturesque hilltops, Kigali is a thriving African city immediately notable for its cleanliness, orderliness, and hospitality.
Kigali is a great place to begin or end any Rwanda journey as it’s conveniently located in the geographic center of the country. The city is clean and safe, with extremely welcoming people. Travelers will enjoy exploring the great cultural activities – including several award-winning museums, burgeoning music scene, and some of East Africa’s most memorable dining experiences.
This tour will take you to the following sites:
The Kigali Genocide Memorial exists as a permanent memorial to those who became victim to the genocide in 1994. It deals with a topic of international importance, with far-reaching significance, and is designed to engage and challenge an international visitor base.
At the memorial, you will be able to visit three permanent exhibitions, the largest of which documents the genocide in 1994, and pay tribute to the victims of the genocide.
Kimironko market is one of the largest local markets in Kigali. A visit to the market offers you the opportunity to meet local vegetable vendors and to behold the produce. Tempted by succulent local fruits and vegetables, you can also test your bargaining power at food shopping in Kigali.
Located in Kigali about 2 km from Kigali International Airport, the Palace served as home to Juvenal Habyarimana and Pasteur Bizimungu during the 1970s up to the late 1990s. The Presidential Palace Museum is one of the newest museums in Kigali. It gives visitors a chance to visit the former state house as well as gain an overview of Rwanda’s history; one can also visit some of the flight debris of the FALCON 50 presidential plane that went down on 6th April 1994.
You will break off for lunch and, depending on your flight time, you will transfer to Kigali international airport for your flight.

The following items are normally excluded from your Tour as per industry standards, unless specifically stated otherwise:
In your host country, tipping is commonly expected in the tourism industry by everyone who delivers a service to you. This includes guides, drivers, porters, personal cooks and waiters, hotel staff and other staff. While tipping is not mandatory, we strongly advocate paying recommended tips to ensure a fair total compensation for your service personnel who rely on tips as a substantial component of their income.
In guided Tours, especially if it involves several crew members, tipping can become a substantial additional cost for you. It is never included in Tour prices – no matter whether on Fair Voyage or elsewhere (except for few niche Operators, in which case it is explicitly stated). Please review the tipping recommendations for your Tour so that you understand your recommended total budget.
Of course, if you are not satisfied with the services of your crew, you may choose not to tip. However, please consider that individual crew members may not be in control of your overall service delivery or your initial expectations about their service standards. Lastly, we expect that in most cases your crew will meet or exceed your expectations. Therefore, please make sure to leave a sufficient buffer for recommended tips within your overall budget.
