The biggest waves are in the Namibian winter time (June to August), but this also means that the water is pretty cold, on average around 13°C. So winter time is only recommendable for more experienced surfers.
However, the waves are pretty good year round, and so most people prefer to surf in the Namibian summer (December to February), when the water is warmer, between 15 – 20 °C.
If you’re planning additional activities in Namibia: To explore the desert, including an optional excursion to Sossusvlei, any time of the year is great. If you are planning an additional excursion to Damaraland, the best chance for seeing Desert Elephants are in the drier months from June to November.
