The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) aims to increase global awareness and recognition of sustainable travel and tourism practices through the use of Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria.
As a multi-stakeholder membership organization, the GSTC works with communities, governments, researchers, non-profit organizations and businesses to improve sustainable tourism practices.
Through the GSTC Criteria, they manage the accreditations for sustainable tourism certifications for both destinations and the tourism industry on a global level.
The GSTC was founded by the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) and the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and gets funding from the UN Foundation, amongst others.
