We follow the calculation approach as illustrated by our carbon calculator. For trips where we do not track exact mileage or accommodation categories, we assume on average 100 kilometers of driving in a private vehicle per day and overnight stays in accommodations with an average impact equivalent to 3-star hotels.
To calculate the CO2 footprint of our trips, we use MyClimate assumptions of 0.0741 tons per 100km driving and 0.02 tons per overnight stay in a 3-star hotel. We offset the CO2 footprint of our trips by investing in sustainable development projects meeting the highest Gold Standard at an average price of at least equivalent the MyClimate curated basket of international projects (CHF 28.6 as of April 2022).
As of 2022, our calculations are semi-automated, with tracking performed quarterly, and we invest in projects based on the aggregate footprint of our trips normally quarterly, once the total offset price to be invested reaches at least CHF 500 in total.
