In this speech at the GSTC Global Conference 2019 on the Azores, Alexandra Pastolnigg shared her story as founder of Fair Voyage and our vision for a sustainable travel future:
- We need independent onsite sustainability audits to move from greenwashing to real sustainability. They are necessary so that investors and consumers know how to make sustainable investing and buying decisions.
- The travel industry has the opportunity to make independent sustainability audits mainstream and thereby also set a signal for other industries.
- By collaborating towards a shared vision, taking leadership and co-creating new role models, we’ll preserve our planet and make the UN Sustainable Development Goals a reality.
In travel and tourism, the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) is setting the global sustainability standards, and GSTC accredited certifications are conducting independent sustainability audits according to GSTC Standards.
