Fair Trade Tourism operates in South Africa. There are also some Fair Trade Certified businesses in Mozambique and Madagascar.
The certification programme also has mutual recognition agreements with like-minded African certification programmes in the following countries:

In Botswana, Fair Trade Tourism has a mutual recognition agreement with the Botswana Tourism Organisation’s Ecotourism Certification System and recognizes its Ecotourism Certified properties. In Namibia, Fair Trade Tourism has a mutual recognition agreement with Eco Awards Namibia.
It also has a mutual recognition agreement with Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label and recognizes the hotels and resorts which are certified by it.
In Tanzania, Fair Trade Tourism has signed a mutual recognition agreement with Responsible Tourism Tanzania and recognises its Tree Level properties, while in Kenya, it has a mutual recognition agreement with Ecotourism Kenya and recognizes its Gold standard camps, lodges and hotels.
