OUR SUSTAINABLE TRAVEL MISSION

We are making sustainable travel easy, so that together we can preserve our planet and implement the Sustainable Development Goals in tourism.

To achieve our purpose, we have built a multi-day tour customization and booking platform specifically for the needs conscious travellers and sustainable local tour operators. We launched in East Africa and are currently in the process of rapid global scaling.

For travellers, we are making multi-day tours transparent, comparable and easily customizable. They get advice directly from their best-matching destination expert and book tours at local prices, with the safety of our Swiss payment insurance.

For local tour operators, we are making it easy to manage multi-day tours and sell sustainable offers globally. In partnership with the world’s leading sustainable travel training and audit organizations, we independently verify and continually improve sustainability.

YOUR ROLE

To support our rapid global expansion, we need you to help our local partners all around the world to get their sustainable travel offers online. You will help with data entry, write new content snippets and find stunning photos to make conscious travellers excited about booking a sustainable trip. With attention to detail, you verify pricing information, check that all travellers need to know is displayed in a correct and easy to understand way, and that all offers meet our Fair Voyage criteria. As you get familiar with our system, your focus shifts to supporting our local partners in managing their own itineraries and answering any questions that our partners or travellers might have.

Create online travel itineraries and tours
  • Use our system and readily available content to create travel itineraries
  • Upload photos & other information about accommodations, destinations and activities
  • Write new travel content and find matching photos to complement our existing content
  • Use our system and price/package information provided by our responsible tour operator partners to create bookable tours
  • Suggest ways to make our system more user-friendly
Support our tour operator partners
  • Support our partners to directly use our system to build itineraries and promote tours
  • Check specific client queries with our partners
  • Answer questions and create self-explanatory “how to” documentation
  • Support partner invoicing and administration
  • Help train and on-board new partners
Provide customer support (over time, for permanent roles)
  • Answer traveller inquiries via email, phone and live chat
  • Leverage our FAQ / customer support content to answer client queries
  • If in doubt, check answers first internally and/or with our experts/business partners
  • Log all new answers to build our online content and efficiently answer duplicate questions
Hands-on marketing & administrative support depending on business requirements
  • Prepare brochures and other marketing materials
  • Write newsletters, blogs or social media posts
  • Manage our social media channels & online community
  • Help organize and host events and meet-ups
  • Help host our stand at traveller conferences
  • Find & edit photos to support our content
  • Other ad-hoc administrative & operational tasks

 

YOUR PROFILE

  • Excited about our mission: You feel inspired by our sustainable travel mission. Ideally, you have also experienced the pain points we are trying to solve as traveller. You have a strong interest to remain involved and grow with Fair Voyage over the longer term.
  • Team player: You collaborate and communicate openly while sharing information freely. You keep your commitments or communicate openly when you need help. When other team members need help, you support them generously because you understand that we can only win together.
  • Online and software affinity: You are a self-starter when it comes to quickly learning & working with new software applications. Excellent command of Google Docs is a given. Ideally, you also have hands-on experience with WordPress or similar Content Management Systems.
  • Attention to detail: You always double-check your work. When numbers or other information doesn’t make sense, you spot it easily and correct it proactively. Just OK is not good enough, you focus on details and take pride in producing high-quality work that others can rely on.
  • Proactive self-starter: You contribute your creative ideas and take initiative hands-on to make things happen. You are comfortable working independently and remotely.
  • Service-oriented: You thrive when you can help others and solve their problems. Being always friendly and polite is a given; you seek to exceed customer expectations. Making others happy makes you happy.
  • Impeccable English and German: You speak English and German fluently. Ideally, you are a native speaker in English or German (or both!) and have worked or studied in both languages.
  • Based in Europe: As you will be free to work remotely, you do not need to be based in Switzerland. However, you must be based in Europe to facilitate occasional in-person meet-ups. Digital nomads are also welcome.
  • Relevant university degree (optional): Preferably, you are studying or graduated with a specialization on digital marketing, tourism, or service related field.
  • Relevant work experience (optional): Preferably, you have already worked in online support, content creation, travel or other relevant roles; and/or with a startup.

 

OUR ARRANGEMENT

  • Freelance or internship contract; employment contract only available for candidates based in Switzerland and possibly for the right candidate after initial trial period in DACH countries.
  • You may work from anywhere you like. We communicate predominantly via video calls and online tools.
  • If you’re based near Zurich, we will meet in person to get started and for regular team meetings.
  • If you are quick, we’d love you to join our Founder at f.re.e., the biggest traveller conference in Munich, Feb 19-23. It would be an ideal “onboarding” opportunity for you to work directly with our Founder and get direct exposure to our market. We cover your travel expenses.
  • We will use UK, German and Austrian pay scales for young professionals in marketing and customer support to benchmark our offer. As an impact startup, we regret that we cannot offer Swiss market salaries. We also welcome experienced professionals to apply, but regret that we will not be able to offer you a pay commensurate with your experience.
  • We cannot sponsor visas, relocations or regular travel expenses to Switzerland.
