Little Adam's Peak & Nine Arch Bridge Visit | Fair Voyage

OUR TOP PICKS FOR YOU IN 2024 – LOVED BY FAIR VOYAGE TRAVELERS

Upon arriving in Ella, set out on a short hike to the Little Adams Peak. This can be easily done as the hike itself takes only about one hour and the views of the valley and surrounding hills is simply stunning. The best weather is early morning when the skies are clear and the morning air is fresh and cool. Then proceed to the Nine Arch Bridge.

Back in the 1920's the British extended the train line all the way to Badulla, an amazing feat considering the valley that had to be crossed the forests it was a wild territory. Perhaps the most remarkable feat is the Demodara Nine Arch bridge. It was one of the architectural marvels of its day back in British Ceylon. This massive train crossing is built entirely of stone, bricks and cement and there is not a single piece of steel in the structure. Some say that WWI halted a shipment of steel so the engineers had to do without, when it opened back in 1921 it was also known as "Ahas Nawaya Palama” or the 9 Skies Bridge.

You can take a small walk and see this from a view point. If you are more adventurous, you could walk all the way down to the bridge and if you are lucky, you might be able to spot a train coming through the bridge.
