Paddling tour in a waka tuarua or waka ama | Fair Voyage

OUR TOP PICKS FOR YOU IN 2024 – LOVED BY FAIR VOYAGE TRAVELERS

Waka (Māori canoe) are the living expression of New Zealand’s tūpuna (ancestors) who sailed the Pacific Ocean for thousands of years. By paddling in a double-hulled (waka tuarua) or single-hulled outrigger canoe (waka ama), you will share in New Zealand's treasured heritage. You will also learn about how Waka Abel Tasman are supporting youth in their region. All trips begin and end with a blessing (karakia) for protection. You will learn the etiquette (tikanga) associated with waka before becoming familiar with the boat and embarking on your journey (haerenga) into the Abel Tasman national park. Waka Abel Tasman is a member of Māori Tourism and their motto is: Manaaki moana, manaaki tangata, haere whakamua (Care for the sea, care for the people, move forward as one). This trip will take place from approximately 9am-12pm.
