Travellers often choose destinations because of their unique flora and fauna, its biodiversity and natural heritage. In Kenya, the human-wildlife conflict was growing through overgrazing, intensive farming and land division which was leading to the loss of biodiversity and wildlife corridors.
Gamewatchers uses a conservancy concept that protects and restores Kenya’s flora and fauna outside national parks by engaging local communities in private conservancies. The local community earns more benefits from conserving wildlife and ecosystems than they would make from farming or herding cattle. As part of the inclusive approach, the local community has priority for all job opportunities in the conservancies and eco-camps to make sure they can earn a living by being involved in the ecotourism activities.
In the private conservancy areas, wildlife numbers and species variety have increased and habitats and biodiversity flourishes, in recent years.
