SDG 17: Strengthen and revitalise global partnerships for sustainable development

The 17th and last of the SDGs zooms out and encourages to revitalize and strengthen the means of implementation of a global partnership for sustainable development. Globally, the tourism industry is in a unique position, because it interlinks various sectors and industries through the services, products and experiences it offers.

The cross-sectoral nature of tourism holds the potential to gather private and public partners around the table to work on a shared strategy. It can engage multi-level stakeholders on an international, national, regional and local level to unite their efforts to reach a joint goal, like, for example, working together to achieve the SDGs and other common goals.

Besides all stakeholders supporting a similar goal, public policy and innovative financing are crucial aspects to achieve the 2030 Agenda. Other actions to help strengthen and implement strategies to reach the SDGs are partnerships for education and awareness-raising, professional development and training, action to protect wildlife and ecosystems, offsetting climate impacts, the involvement of suppliers, customers and staff and the wider community.

To turn Agenda 2030 into a reality, independent sustainability audits and raising awareness building on the need for a global sustainability standard are critical. This is what ultimately will help us preserve our planet and implement each and every one of the 17 SDGs.
