SDG 8: Inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all

As stated by the UNWTO and the Sustainable Development Goals, tourism can and should promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth. This includes fair employment and decent working conditions for all, with a specific focus on women and youth in particular.⠀

Tourism is an important economic sector in many countries worldwide. Furthermore, when zooming in on the services it provides, it is one of the top four export earners globally. As a result, every one in ten people globally are working in tourism.⠀

Tourism business can make a difference through the creation and implementation of policies that favour better diversification through tourism value chains. This is what ultimately can increase the positive socio-economic impacts for people globally working in the sector.⠀

Other practical things the industry as a whole and individual businesses and destinations can do are organising staff training, recruiting local staff as much as possible and involving the local community in its activities. ⠀
